Dan Brereton’s New Nocturnals Graphic Novel: Sinister Path
Hot on the heels of their successful first Kickstarter for Dan’s artbook, Enchantress, Dan Brereton now seeks to elicit support to allow him to complete a brand new fully painted Nocturnals original graphic novel, The Sinister Path.
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF THE NOCTURNALS!
Over two decades ago, five time Eisner Award nominee, Dan Brereton brought us NOCTURNALS, a series of graphic novels and stories with a pulp-style blend of Crime, Gothic Horror and Adventure with a twist of Halloween. Following the adventures of Evening, AKA Halloween Girl, a youngster gifted with paranormal abilities, and her father, Doc Horror, occult adventurer and scourge of the criminal underworld. With a crew of night creatures as allies, Doc and Eve are the only force standing between the sleepy town of Pacific City and the predatory forces lurking in its shadows.
2015 will see a new original Nocturnals Graphic novel, THE SINISTER PATH, a 64 page story that promises to be the scariest, hard-boiled tale yet told in their saga. As part of this Kickstarter, we will be offering three editions — the soft cover which will also be available through comic stores; a limited to 300 copies sketch cover edition which will have the same contents as the soft cover edition with a blank cover suitable for sketching by Dan or any of your favorite artists; and an expanded wrap around hard cover Kickstarter edition which will feature a minimum of eight additional pages of additional content. The wrap around cover image is included at the end of this description. The cover for the soft cover is not yet available.
THE STORY
Evening’s ability to attract and communicate with spirits has been part of her as long as she can remember. Now Eve has begun to attract an element of the spirit world she’s totally unprepared for as alien phantasms from the nether realm terrorize her as she sleeps. While attempting to make sense of these unwanted new abilities, Eve comes into possession of “Jammybottoms”, a doll unlike any in her collection of possessed poppets. As Eve discovers the unsettling connection between her night terrors and the new doll, Doc Horror investigates the bowels of a haunted Victorian estate, making an awful discovery which could spell their doom.
The Sinister Path also introduces several new characters, expanding the Nocturnals universe.
THE PROJECT
The Nocturnals, by five-time Eisner nominated creator, Dan Brereton, debuted in 1994 as a six-issue comic book serialized graphic novel entitled “Black Planet” published by Malibu Comics’ Bravura line. (Soon to be made available again in a new printing from Big Wow! Art) Since then, the Nocturnals have returned in other graphic novels, including Nocturnals: The Dark Forever; Gunwitch: The Outskirts of Doom; Nocturnals: The Witching Hour; Nocturnals: The Troll Bridge; and Nocturnals: Carnival of Beasts. They are now seeking assistance to continue the Nocturnals’ saga with a new graphic novel, “The Sinister Path”. The Sinister Path is projected to be a 64 page graphic novel they hope to publish in Fall 2015.
The graphic novel has not been completed and this Kickstarter project seeks to raise funds to allow Dan to forego other work to focus on completion of this graphic novel.
