Review: Barbarella #8
Barbarella finds herself waking up from a one-night stand from hell as the goon she slept with informs her that he was betrayed by a lover in the past, so, as a result, he kills every woman that he mates with after the first time, this way, in his own warped mind, the women will never betray him or any other man. Our quick-thinking protagonist proceeds to peek his interest ala Arabian Nights by telling him a story about her previous sex life. This buys her time to get dressed.
Mike Carey brings our heroine on an incredibly erotic adventure as she relays to her lover a previous encounter with several others, all the while climbing a huge beanstalk while trying to find her ship. Carey brings Barbarella back to her Jean-Claude Forest roots as the highly charged hormones take center stage. Great stuff includes the number of lovers interested in hooking up with the title character and the frustration that grows in her as she tries to find her ship. And we still have two stories to go!
Donny Hadiwidjaja brings his sensual style to this title unlike any other title out there. It’s not a porno title, to be sure, but it is sexually charged while being tastefully done. Highlights include Barbarella’s ship in orbit around Toctes and the final deployment of the Vussix 6 laser canon.
A highly satisfactory tale of sex and insanity and a love that’s gone wrong. Barbarella is always searching for the perfect orgasm, but that search always seems to get her in trouble. She opts to enjoy the company of a hug blue alien that is bent on killing her after pleasuring her. But her stalling tactics allow…Let’s just say a nice twist ending and leave it there. *** (8.3 rating)
