Boom and BadGrrls
I am Richard Boom, proprietor of this lovely little corner of the world wide web! Please allow me to welcome you to the site and explain what I want to accomplish with Comics for Sinners.
I used to check the internet and other sources regularly (if not daily) for news on comics. There is quite a lot I am interested in and love sharing info on. On a now defunct message board I frequented someone suggested that I create a Bad Grrl Comic Fan Club… and that got me thinking. I really like comics with strong females in the leading role — Vampirella, Kabuki, Black Widow, Red Sonja, Witchblade and Darkchylde spring to mind. Let’s stigmatize and call them “Bad Girl Comics”… not only for the visual pleasures, mind you!
There are other people out there who seem to have this same addiction, so eventually I discovered Yahoo-groups and in 2001 I founded the “Bad Grrrl – Comics Fan club” there. I had a blast sending 2-20 emails per day to my 1,000 followers.
I maintained this fan club for almost 10 years, shooting out over 6,000 emails but stopped when I went to work for a comic news site (Broken Frontier) myself in 2010. Suddenly, I was helping to make the news instead of only distributing it.
Almost 2 years later, Comics for Sinners has become a fact, where I’ll be combining the network I’ve connected with and information-flow I’ve got in my fingers with the premise, goal and intentions of that Yahoo-Group I started in 2001.
That’s right, I’ve come full circle!
