Given to Me: Adolescent Radioactive Samurai Platypi
It is with great pride that I announce the up-coming comic book Adolescent Radioactive Samurai Platypi. I debut the cover and first 5 pages of the comic book with art by Melissa Erwin. The color scheme isn’t perfect yet, but being worked on by different individuals. I will present all versions to the publishers and see which ones they like the best. For now I have 3 colorists working on the title. And different colorists are presented here.
I first met Melissa at Pittsburgh Comic Con where she was promoting her own title Sakura and the Spider, which I reviewed for this site earlier, and immediately liked her work. The story consisted of two warring Samurai families or as she put it “The Sopranos meets Yo Jimbo.” I was looking for an artist to do the Kate Bryant story and since Kate was born in Japan and grew up to be a Ninja, I thought Melissa would be perfect for this title. This issue is available on Indyplanet and Drive Thru Comics for anyone that’s interested. Files of Karl Vincent # 2.
I kept in touch with Melissa for future projects and got my idea for the Platypi out of mothballs. I had developed the idea back in the 80’s and sat on it until the time was right. When I put the idea into development I immediately thought of Melissa as she had worked on her own Samurai title. When I contacted her she immediately took to the idea and wanted to do it.
The picture that I use here for the cover is not the one that will become our cover. I’m thinking about hiring a manga style artist to do the cover, or I might just have Melissa or one of my other artists that I commission do it. But for now, in it’s early stages, here are the cover and first 5 pages of another KRG masterpiece: ADOLESCENT RADIOACTIVE SAMURI PLATYPI!
