Given to Me: Updating Projects, Shooting A movie

given122015_2Time for another column. This week I want to talk about this past Sunday’s (7/10/2016) film shoot. We finished the scene which featured Chad Stevens, who plays the first vampire that Karl has to face in Last Rites: The Return of Sebastian Vasilis. The whole shoot went really well. Chad was incredibly menacing as the vampire and the crew succeeded in turning an ordinary abandoned building into a spooky old mansion.

When I discussed the first part of the filming of this scene I didn’t set the scene up so I will do that now. At the beginning of this film Karl is visited by the ghost of a vampire that he had killed years ago named Sebastian Vasilis. Sebastian wants to recruit him on a mission to prevent the resurrection of the deadliest vampire/demigods of all time. The Hebrew Lilith (who has already been resurrected at this point.) the Egyptian Sekhmet and the Hindu Kali. Karl, being the timid vampire hunter who wets his pants every time he sees one of the blood suckers that he is, refuses to go along on this mission. So we cut ahead to another vampire hunt.

The difference between the mission that Sebastian wants to recruit Karl on and this vampire hunt is that he wants Karl to take on hoard’s of Lilitu, Setite and Tantric vampires while this is only one vampire and Karl plans to destroy him while he’s asleep. Sebastian, however, is not satisfied with Karl’s answer, he wants Karl on the mission he tried to recruit him on and won’t leave Karl alone, so, he shows up as Karl is about to stake this nosferatu and startles him then the vampire wakes up and attacks Karl.

After Sebastian’s constant harassment and the fact that the last vampire, whom Karl could have staked easily, could have killed him Karl finally agrees to go along on Sebastian’s mission. Many kudos to cast and crew this scene was hard to film and the production crew pulled it off. It took 10 hours of filming and we should have our first trailer out soon. Look for it in my column within a month.
