Queers & Comics Conference May 17 & 18, 2019

The QUEERS & COMICS CONFERENCE returns to NYC for the third biennial conference, to be held at the School of Visual Arts, one of the first U.S. colleges to offer a cartooning degree. SVA was founded as The Cartoonists and Illustrators School, and has an exciting and historic roster of alumni, faculty, and student cartoonists.

The conference will be organized by cartoonist Jennifer Camper and Justin Hall, cartoonist and Associate Professor of Comics at California College of the Arts. They will be working with Thomas Woodruff, artist and Chair of SVA’s Illustration and Cartooning Department.

The Queers & Comics Conference was created to celebrate, explore, document, and analyze LGBTQ cartoonists and their work. The biennial conference alternates between NYC and San Francisco.

The Queers & Comics Conference offers LGBTQ cartoonists the opportunity to document the history and significance of queer comics, discuss the craft of cartooning, and promote LGBTQ cartoonists in the comics industry. The conferences brings together US and international LGBTQ cartoonists and comics writers and artists, as well as scholars, publishers, editors, journalists, and readers of queer comics.

Past conferences have featured Keynote presentations from Alison Bechdel, Howard Cruse, Gengoroh Tagame, and Mariko Tamaki.

About the Author

Richard is the driving force behind Comics for Sinners. His love and admiration for female comic book characters is virtually unparalleled, which immediately explains his biggest 'sin': his Hot Mummy fetish. This sketchbook theme is philogynistic in nature and even the source of his WIP comic book series "The Sisterhood".
