Review: Chastity #3

“At some point, my life was replaced by the plot of a bad basic cable sci-fi movie…” – Chastity.

I can’t believe they brought back one of my favorite vampire comic books! Chastity Marks should definitely get the film treatment, or at least a streaming TV series somewhere. This issue opens with our anti-hero and her gang aboard a cargo ship. The crew tries to stop them from obtaining their goal, which is to seize the cargo, but, of course, they don’t count on Chastity’s unique abilities.

The Creative Team:

Maine and Burnham keep the excitement brewing on every page. This entire issue takes place on the cargo ship. Our anti-heroes are desperate to gain that ship’s cargo and they think it will be easily done given their unique abilities, but even vampires can underestimate their opponents. I love how this issue unfolds; we get the gory badassery that first endeared us to the character many moons ago and the bonus of it being updated to today’s standards. There’s a new female character introduced that gives Chastity a run for her money. We don’t find out that much about her in this issue, but I’m sure she will be a worthy rival to this supernatural succubus. Great stuff includes our anti-heroes being led into a trap and the new female antagonist for Chastity.

Erik Burnham gives us extraordinary panels of emotional turmoil as he brings the protagonist full circle in an issue that showcases her resolve. Even though Chastity is determined she is still cautious as she should be. Not everything can be delivered so easily. Great illustrations and fast-moving panels make this an excellent read Highlights include the confrontation with the crew and Chastity’s attack on this issue’s antagonist.

In Conclusion:

Chastity has been gone too long from the comics world and I, for one, am glad she’s back. She’s not just some 2-dimensional vampire figure, but a very complex character whose stories need more exposure. If you want a kick-ass female anti-hero who happens to be a vampire, then Chastity is your girl. Vampirella is cool, but she’s a hero while Chastity is one of those sometimes heroes, sometimes villain type. Thank God she’s back! The end of this issue features our heroes backed into a corner and Chastity contemplating…to be continued! **** (9.2 rating)
