Review: Doc Savage: The Spiders Web #5 (of 5)
We come to the final chapter of this exceptional story. All the loose ends are dealt with and discussed. Our heroes proceed with caution. It is a slower issue than the other four, but we finally see how all the pieces fit together. Chris Roberson brings us to a neat and tidy conclusion and it is a satisfying finale to this phenomenal story. There is a surprise that I wasn’t expecting, which is always a nice touch.
Doc’s team is in top form as they move in to take down the subversives. And move in they do, dozen’s of operatives, by land and by air. The action does pick up eventually and our team takes nothing for granted. At first they’re confused at what they find, or rather, what they don’t find. Are they in the right place? If I have any complaint at all it’s that things may be proceeding a bit to much by the numbers.
Cezar Razek renders our heroes’ with a noble flair. There’s a sky diving scene at the beginning that brings our heroes’ into the thick of things and it is drawn with heroic grandeur which is an excellent beginning to this final chapter. When Doc finally confronts the main villain of the piece there is a look of determination on his face which tells the reader that he means business.
Dynamite’s Doc Savage is one of my favorite on going titles. I hope The powers that be at Dynamite continue this title for a long time and this creative team stays with the series until the end.
