Review: Paradise Court #2 (OF 5)

Paradise Court. The name evokes a peaceful tranquil feeling and makes you want to live in such an area. One young lady would visit a friend that lived in this idealized gated community. But how ideal is it really?

The Creative Team:

Joe Brusha doing what he does best. Writing horror fiction. Taking us to the state of New Mexico and what appears to be the ideal neighborhood. Janey is visiting her long-lost friend Amy, who is now married to Christian. Amy is convinced that she witnessed a crime, but the police say nothing happened. A favorite scenario of mine is the character that witnesses a crime, but no one believes them. William Ragsdale’s Charlie Brewster in the original Fright Night comes to mind and Brusha creates good tension as Amy tries to convince a local cop to investigate the disappearance of a young girl that the cops say has been found. Great stuff includes Our heroes visiting a local tavern where she confronts what looks to be a local bum and the revelation from Amy’s past which may be affecting her judgment in the present.

Babisu Kourtis creates a subtle atmosphere that lulls us into a false sense of security. The way he illustrates the apartment complex it seems to be just an average apartment complex. But when we cut away, we see the darker side of Paradise Court that no one else seems to notice. Highlights include the splash of Amy’s nightmare and the fate of Mike, one of Amy’s friends. Definitely not for the squeamish!

In Conclusion:

Zenescope has proven themselves to be masters of suspense and this title only continues to reinforce that truth. Amy is having a tough time convincing her friends that what she saw was real. Until now, people were doubting her sanity but with this startling turn of events…to be continued! ***1/2 (8.5 rating.)

PARADISE COURT #2 (OF 5)

(W) Joe Brusha
(CA) Riveiro
(A) Babisu Kourtis

People are going missing in Paradise Court and only Amy seems to think something sinister is behind their disappearances. No one else wants to believe that something evil is stalking their idealistic, gated community. But beneath the surface of this false paradise lurks a secret so dark that death will seem like a pleasant escape for those it comes to.
