Review: Portal Bound #0

This issue begins with exposition explaining the land, which is a warrior land ruled by a just king. We see our protagonist, Horuk, in the middle of a heated argument stating that they need to get the character of Sybil away from the area before the danger begins!

The Creative Team:

Mark Roslan and Gabe Carrasco bring us into a fairy tale world with a Medieval spirit as we see Horuk leading Sybil to safety. Although Sybil is no damsel in distress, she’s every bit a knight and shows no fear, in fact she’s a princess that doesn’t believe that she needs to abandon her kingdom. Then they bring us back to earth and we’re introduced to high school student Elias Riviera. The writers have crafted a fun tale of days gone by and I really loved the characters in this title. A curious blend of Medieval fantasy and modern teen dramedy. It’s King Arthur meets Riverdale. Great stuff.

Alex Arizmendi renders a beautiful land in the opening splash as the adventure is explained to our readers. He transitions from Horuk’s world to present day earth with ease and he gives the renderings just a slight cartoony touch which helps us keep in mind that we’re in a fantasy world. A highlight is Sybil battling strange wolf/machine hybrids called fymiera.

In Conclusion:

This is one of the most fun issue 0’s I’ve read. We finally see where this adventure is about to lead us. Horuk is afraid of what the king has planned and he, along with the Queen, do not believe that Sybil should have anything to do with these crazy goings on. Sybil finds herself a stranger in a strange land as she and Horuk finally reach the portal, Sybil winds up in… to be continued.
