Review: The Assignment TPB; inspiring the upcoming Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez film

In The Assignment, hitman Frank Kitchen takes on a job but the story takes a savage turn when the victim’s sister, a sociopathic surgeon, decides to punish Frank in a unique way. Now Frank is out cold for more a long time and being aAbducted and operated on against his will.

When Frank Kitchen awakens in an altered condition he is in shock but his personal attitude is still with a hitman’s hunger for revenge…

Shall I tell more? Spoil more? Why not, since this is a REVIEW. But let me curb my enthusiasm and only admit that Frank can now also be called Frankie!! And he/she is hot!

When I first saw the premise (neo-noir, hitman, crime etc) I thought “not for me” but then I saw two actrices (Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez) named after an upcoming movie and I was intrigued. Still with too little time on my end, I decided to forsake this 138-page intense book… that was until someone told me to check it out. And I was hooked from the first page due to TWO reasons.

1] was this story about a Mummy? Everyone knows I soooooo dig the Mummified Ladies as can be seen and read about here.

2] this story was about a hitman… why am I reading about a woman with bandages over her face?

Nuff said for now… the story spirals away back and forth, to explain all there is to it. Hitman Frank shows the bad guys he is still the BADDEST around and on his revenge-filled quest for answers he is no holds barred.

The writer made sure that not only would the reader be impossible to put the book aside, the action just jumps at your from page to page. And not only the action… there is a weight to the pages in explanation, in dialogue, in love-making scenes. This weight is obviously stimulated and balanced out by the execution of the artist and makes this project a perfectly balanced endeavor.

So yes, I read this project. I really READ it.
And it took me in, welcomed and entertained me. It would not let go until I was finished. And then I had to go back and just experience the water-color (I think) artwork and have a second experience as the artwork and the way the artist handles the colors in background and foreground, really astounded me.

Respect to the team, the surprised me!

The Assignment – a neo-noir which inspired the upcoming Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez film.
