0Review: Van Helsing vs. The Werewolf #3 (of 6)
The plot thickens! Van Helsing and Wu face another vampire attack on their way to track the werewolf. This time there’s a lot more vampires than the attack in previous issues.
Wu calls the authorities and promises that there will be Guo’anbu or the Chinese version of the CIA by dawn. The vampires have no problem with the extreme cold of the Himalayas, creating another problem for our heroes who have to beware of frost bite.
The Creative Team:
Chuck Dixon brings us more mystery as another warrior appears who has apparently been hunting vampires on the Himalayan trail. The warrior gives aid to Van Helsing, Wu and T’shering. Even though they fight a common enemy, they remain wary of each other. Without giving away too much, it seems there’s more to this vampire attack then just a desire to rid the world of the Van Helsing clan. Dixon masterfully draws us into the stranger’s plight and links it too our protagonists.
Otero remains strong as he helps move the panels along with his intense pencils and inks. He keeps the suspense rolling along until the final shocking page when the werewolf in question finally shows up and does the shocking and unthinkable deed which will leave the reader wanting so much more…To be continued.
In Conclusion:
There is definitely a turning point by the end of this issue and the reader that has invested precious time in this title will not be disappointed. More questions are raised then answered which is how it should be in a tale so intense that lives are in peril and everything relies on the instincts of our main protagonist. I’m anxious to see if my guess as to who the werewolf is might be right or not, but, alas, that’s not revealed here. What is revealed is a blood lust that seemingly can’t be quenched! To be continued! ***1/2 (8.8 rating)
