Titan Comics Celebrates Doctor Who Comics Day 2016 TODAY!

After obtaining the license in 2013 to produce comic books based on BBC-TV’s worldwide sci-fi sensation Doctor Who, Titan Comics wasted no time in turning the adventures of the time-traveling Time Lord into a cottage industry. In 2014 they simultaneously launched ongoing series for the Tenth and Eleventh incarnations (played on television by actors David Tennant and Matt Smith, respectively), and then followed those with another ongoing, this time for actor Peter Capaldi’s current Twelfth Doctor, as well as miniseries starring the Eighth, Ninth, and Fourth iterations.

But Titan wasn’t done with expanding the franchise yet, and in 2014 it introduced Doctor Who Comics Day as an annual celebration of its titles and its growing fanbase, with events held at comic shops around the world. As an incentive, Titan first offered readers a free sampler of their DW comics, but in 2015 they took a larger step by launching their first event comic to tie-in with DWCD: the five-issue multi-Doctor miniseries Doctor Who: Four Doctors.

For 2016, Doctor Who Comics Day is still going strong, with the “party” being held on Saturday, July 9th. And this year’s event comic is Doctor Who: Supremacy of the Cybermen, a five-issue miniseries planned for biweekly publication; issue 1 was released this past Wednesday, July 6th. Doctors Nine through Twelve team-up to battle one of their oldest enemies, the cyborg race called the Cybermen, who were introduced to TV viewers in 1966 and who are currently celebrating their 50th anniversary.
