TV series Van Helsing Looks Fierce and Smoking Hot

van_helsing_posterThe 13-episode series, from acclaimed filmmaker Neil LaBute, will focus on Vanessa Helsing (True Blood’s Kelly Overton), the latest in a long line of famed monster hunters. The series will feature an intriguing twist on the Dracula story, with Vanessa being resurrected in a future in which vampires rule the world. Discovering that she holds a mysterious power over them (the bloodsuckers, that is), Vanessa must lead what’s left of humanity against the vamps in a post-Rising world.

Overton will be joined by Jonathan Scarfe (Hell on Wheels), Christopher Heyerdahl (Stargate AtlantisHell on Wheels), Paul Johansson (Mad Men), David Cubitt (Ray Donovan) and Tim Guinee (Stargate SG-1, Homeland). Van Helsing will be produced by LaBute, who’ll also serve as producer and showrunner alongside Continuum creator Simon Barry, who’ll be acting as producer and director. Not a bad pedigree, eh? Here’s what LaBute said in a previous statement about his upcoming series:

“I am extremely excited to be working with Syfy and Nomadic Pictures to create a unique, character-driven action series that will move the traditional vampire tropes into bold and unexpected new territories” LaBute said in a statement. “This is a wonderful chance for us to forge great stories and unforgettable characters and throw them into a world where the stakes – both dramatic and personal – are tremendously high.”

Syfy’s Van Helsing is slated to premiere this fall.
